Part 7: Dysfunctional Healer

We continue our journey with the gang from the Hair of the Hellhound Tavern. (If this is your first time tuning in, you can catch up on the story so far here.) The Catperson Letty, Bogflug the Goblin, Grim the Halfling, and our plain old human Blande have just had the woods close in around them. They are now forced to push deeper into the dark forest… as pockets of nothing manifest along the path.

There’s rustling coming from the forest canopy above. Bogflug raises his torch, but it’s too late! A large, fetid, creature descends upon him with a hiss, all cold and furry. Grim, ever watchful, slams the beast with a closed fist, sending it flying!

Bogflug regains his footing and stokes the torch to illuminate the whole area. Descending from the trees all around them are, what can only be described as… Zombie Possums! A whole gang of them! All foaming at the mouth with rabies… of the undead.

Blande pulls a dagger and slices the ones within arms reach. Bogflug points the torch at a small clutch of them and wills the flame forward. I didn’t know I could do that, he thought to himself, impressed.

Grim smashed two zombie possums together with his massive hands- exploding the foul beasts into black sludge and bone.

“My ankle!” Letty heard from somewhere in the battle. A large and clever possum had used its prehensile tail to wrap up Blande’s leg and make him trip, twisting his ankle.

Bogflug blasted it away, turning it into a pile of burnt nasty gristle. Grim cleaned up the rest and when it was all said and done, Blande sat there, grabbing at his foot.

Letty knew there were some plants in these woods that soothed muscles and joints, but it was so dark and she didn’t want to leave the path. She held up her ring. She called upon its ability to draw power from the plant life around her.

It began to glow.

It began to glow red.

The ring BLASTED Blande and Grim with flames as they tried to dodge out of the way!

Blande shouted “whoa! Looks like my ankle’s fine, but now I’ve lost an eyebrow!”

“I’m so sorry!” shouted Letty.

They all clearly had a lot to learn about themselves and their skills. But they did survive their first encounter with the army of the undead. They would take that as a win, and set up camp for the night.
